“Dear God,
I am so afraid to open my clenched fists!
Who will I be when I have nothing left to hold on to?
Who will I be when I stand before you with empty hands?
Please help me to gradually open my hands
and to discover that I am not what I own,
but what you want to give me.
And what you want to give me is love,
unconditional, everlasting love.
Amen.”

Ah, Rachel! I love Henri Nouwen! He has such insights. Those of us who’ve been rejected and bear such deep hurts have such a fear of intimacy. We don’t understand the love of God, who knows us thoroughly and yet loves us fiercely.

Anna-Belle, I love his writing too, such depth and compassion and longing for God
Amazing that the God of the universe loves us so fiercely! Thank you Papa
